Catalina is a beautiful uninhabited island known as one of the best sites for snorkeling in the Dominican Republic and after Saona is probably the most popular day trip excursion in Punta Cana. Catalina Island lies 1.5 miles from the southeastern shore of the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean Sea, and is formed by coral stone and surrounded by one of the most diverse ecosystems in the Caribbean Sea. It is classified as a national monument with a protected environment and little development and is also the Caribbean beach home port of Costa cruise line .
